Cards 4 Cancer Day Was A Huge Success!

Posted by cards4cancer. 1 Comment

We are so happy to announce Cards 4 Cancer Day was as successful as we had hoped it would be. Over 100,000 cards were delivered to cancer centers around the world! Men, women and children battling cancer are opening those cards as we speak and their hearts or lifting with joy because of YOU! Children’s Medical Center of Dayton writes “Thank you Cards 4 Cancer and Spirit Jump for donating 200+ cards for our patients today. What a great pick-me-up for the kids.”

Without the generosity and kindness of team members and leaders none of this would have been possible. You have lifted the spirits of so many people near and far, you have been part of a movement bigger than yourself. One simple card can make a huge difference in a cancer patients life,

“Some of your cards ended up at Brigham & Woman’s Hospital in Boston and one made it into my hands. You were kind enough to think of cheering up a stranger; your kindness is appreciated very much.” ~Barbara. Messages like this are being received hourly by the Cards 4 Cancer.

Many people are asking if they can continue to drop off cards at the cancer centers. What we would love is for people to sign up for Spirit Jump.  There are hundreds of cancer patients who have contacted us directly asking to receive cards and small gifts during their battle. As a member of Spirit Jump you could send cards you have made, bought or collected directly to these people. In fact we expect the number of requests to increase dramatically because of the Cards 4 Cancer Day event.

We need many more people to send cards out to lift the spirits of cancer fighters. Join today by visiting www.spiritjump.org and brighten the day of someone diagnosed with cancer. If you know someone who could use a little spirit lift you can also request a Spirit Jump through our website.

Cards For Cancer Day Delivery Is Nearing

Posted by cards4cancer. 2 Comments

We are so excited that our first Cards For Cancer Day is right around the corner. As of today we have over 1,088 people officially signed up to teams. We know so many more are participating and the numbers could reach tens of thousands!  There is still time to get involved by starting or joining a team. If you would like to simply contribute a few cards email cards4cancer@spiritjump.org and we will get you an address to send those cards to.

If you are enjoying making and collecting cards to lift the spirits of those battling cancer you should consider becoming a Spirit Jumper by joining the nonprofit that is putting Cards For Cancer Day on, Spirit Jump.  If you want to learn more visit our website and if you want to sign up right this second CLICK HERE.  There are over 200 people battling cancer (Jumpees) who have asked to receive cards and you can help fulfill their wish by sending just one card.

If you are a team leader we are asking people to please keep track of the number of cards you are delivering. We would love to have a count on how many cards were delivered for Cards For Cancer Day but need your help to accomplish that. When you know how many cards you will deliver simply send an email to cards4cancer@spiritjump.org with the number of cards, the hospital(s) you are delivering to and your team name. We will post all the final counts after 4-10-10

Finally we would love to reach 10k fans on our Facebook page by 4-10-10. We know this can easily be accomplished with your help! If you are on Facebook simply visit our Fanpage and click “Become A Fan” If you are already a fan you can suggest your Facebook friends also become fans by clicking “Suggest To Friends” under our logo. Remember, the more people who know about this project the more cards we can get to cancer centers. We are hoping to launch Cards 4 Cancer again this year but need your help to accomplish this!

One more important request, we need donations. Projects like Cards For Cancer Day take lots of work and unfortunately funds as well. As of now we have only raised $145.00. We are enjoying this project immensely and desperately want to put it on again. But that means we need to raise more money.  We have set a goal of $1,000.00 that must be raised by 4/10/10. We need your help to accomplish this.  With over 1,088 official team leaders/members if each person donated $1 we would easily accomplish our goal.  Please consider making a tax deductible donation to this project and let friends and family know they can help too!  If you want to make your donation now CLICK HERE.

Types Of Message To Include In Your Cards

Posted by cards4cancer. 5 Comments

If this is your first time visiting Cards For Cancer and you want to know how the program works CLICK HERE

We are so excited that so many people around the world are signing up to help us deliver cards to cancer centers. Our founder, Meaghan Edelstein, battled cancer and the cards she received while in the hospital really lifted her spirits. It doesn’t take a lot of time or money to have a positive impact on someone’s life.

Some people have been asking for advice on what to write in their cards. While the messages are important please remember that its your time, thought and compassion that really makes the difference. With that said here are some tips on writing messages in your cards:

1- Try to stay away from “Get Well”. Unfortunately some of the recipients of your cards will not get well and this message, while a positive one, can be hard for some.  Because we do not know specifically who will receive your cards its a good idea to stay away from any type of “Get Well” messages.

2- “Thinking of You” “Wishing You Well” “You Are In Our Thoughts” “Encouraging You Through Your Battle” “Sending warm thoughts and well wishes your way” “You are a true inspiration” etc…are all great messages to include in your cards.

3- Uplifting quotes are always great

4- Drawings without any message at all work too.

5-Try to stay gender and age neutral as you do not know who will be receiving your cards. However, if you know you are delivering to a childrens center, woman’s center etc….you can be more specific.

6- We ask that you include spiritjump.org somewhere in your card so that people who want to receive more cards know about our services.

7- Hospitals have asked that people not include religious messages in their cards.

8- Hospitals have asked not to store cards in a home where someone smokes cigarettes and that they are kept in a smoke free environment.

If you have any questions or need some more suggestions please email cards4cancer@spiritjump.org
